Ripple has a clear ambition: make XRP and its stablecoin RLUSD the go-to rails for AI agent payments. The pitch is straightforward — autonomous AI systems need fast, cheap settlement, and Ripple believes its ecosystem is built for exactly that use case. It's a bold move into a space that's still taking shape.
The problem? The market hasn't gotten the memo yet. USDC, Circle's dollar-pegged stablecoin, is still where most of the real activity lives when it comes to on-chain payments and agent-based transactions. Network effects are hard to break, and USDC has a serious head start in developer trust and liquidity depth.

Ripple's argument for RLUSD centers on regulatory clarity and the speed of the XRP Ledger. If AI agents are going to be executing thousands of micropayments autonomously, latency and cost matter enormously. That's a legitimate technical case — but technology alone rarely wins adoption battles in crypto.
For traders, the real question is whether Ripple can close the gap before a competitor locks up the AI payments narrative.
